Kenyan Female Dancer, Arrested With Hard Drugs Weighing 5.345kg At MMIA, Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said on Tuesday that it had arrested a 42-year-old Kenyan female dancer with cocaine weighing 5.345kg at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

Mitchell Ofoyeju, spokesman of the agency, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos.

He said that the dancer, identified as Samira Johnson, allegedly concealed the narcotics in some school bags.

“The suspect was found in possession of four blue parcels of white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine weighing 5.345kg. Johnson, who was born in Mombasa, travelled with a Kenyan international passport with number A1536020. She departed Bujumbura in Burundi en-route Nairobi to Lagos on a Kenyan Airways flight.

During routine screening, she was found with four parcels of cocaine concealed in school bags. She claimed to be a professional dancer in Kenya. She claimed she was given the school bags in Bujumbura by a friend to deliver in Nigeria. Two Nigerian auto parts dealers based in Uganda (names withheld) were equally caught importing 6.250kg of cocaine and 1.490kg of heroin, respectively, into the country.

All the cases are being investigated and I urge members of the public to report suspected drug traffickers to the nearest NDLEA office.

The suspects will be charged to court soon,’’ he said.

Jonathan, Sambo, Ministers, others to get N3.24bn severance pay

According to the Remuneration Package  put together by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice-president Namadi Sambo, non-returning Senators and House of Representatives members, ministers and  presidential aides will be paid a severance package of about N3.24bn as their stay in office terminates on May 29th this year. 

According to Punch, President Jonathan  is entitled to 300 per cent of his annual basic salary which is put at N3, 514,705 and therefore his severance allowance will be N10, 544,115 after May 29. This however does not affect his constitutional benefits as a former President.

In the same vein, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, is entitled to 300 percent of his basic salary which is put at N3, 031,572.50. This means that his severance allowance after May 29 is N9, 094,717.50. He is also entitled to his constitutional benefits as a former Vice President. 

76 senators who will not be returning to the National Assembly will be entitled to N462,019,200 at the expiration of their tenure on June 5. They too are entitled to  300 per cent of their annual basic salaries as severance allowances. This amounts to N6, 079,200 per senator.

290 members of the House of Representatives will not be returning to the National Assembly. They are entitled to N5, 955,637.50 each as severance allowance. This means that they will be paid N1, 727,134,875.

The ministers, on the other hand, will be collecting a total of N253, 967,212.5. There are 42 ministers in Jonathan’s cabinet. Thirty one of them are senior ministers and 11 are ministers of state.

Each of the senior ministers is entitled to N6, 079,200 severance allowance while each of the ministers of state   will receive N5, 872,740.

There are 113 aides who work with the President, Vice President, Office of the First Lady as special advisers, senior special assistants or special assistants to the President. Each of them is entitled to 300 per cent of their annual basic salary which amounts to N5, 828,625.

Indonesia brushed aside last-minute appeals yesterday and executed eight people including 4 Nigerians convicted of drug smuggling in their country. Photos of the dead being buried and details from their last minutes on earth have now been revealed.

According to the pastors who were with them in their final hours, reformed Bali Nine ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran and their six fellow death row prisoners refused to wear blindfolds and were singing as they were executed by a 13-member firing squad in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The eight men chose to face their executioners and spent their last minutes of life praying, praising God and singing songs including Amazing Grace.

On Wednesday morning, Pastor Christie Buckingham - who read Chan and Sukumaran their last rites - said the eight death row inmates walked out onto the killing field singing religious songs in the 
moments before they were executed.

Pastor Buckingham said the men conducted themselves with 'dignity and strength until the end'. Another pastor, Karina de Vega, said it was a 'beautiful experience'.
'It was breathtaking. This was the first time I witnessed someone so excited to meet their God,' Pastor de Vega told Fairfax.

Indonesian Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo confirmed at a news conference hours after the deaths had been widely reported that each of the eight had been executed simultaneously at 12:35 a.m. (1735 GMT) by a 13-member firing squad. Medical teams confirmed their deaths three minutes later, he said.
"The executions have been successfully implemented, perfectly. All worked, no misses," he said of the deaths of two Australians, four Nigerians, a Brazilian and an Indonesian man.
Prasetyo also dismissed concerns that Indonesia had done long-term damage to bilateral relations through the executions. According to him:
"It's just a momentary reaction. What we're doing is carrying out court decisions."
He said that the message was "do not try to smuggle drugs in Indonesia, because we will be harsh and firm against drug-related crimes." - See more at: 

Ambulances carrying the executed men's coffins have left the prison island of Nusakambangan, Death Island for burial. Australians Sukumaran and Chan requested that their bodies be flown back to Australia. Nigerian Martin Anderson chose to be buried in the West Java town of Bekasi, and fellow Nigerian Raheem Agbaje, wanted to be buried in the East Java town of Madiun where he had been a prisoner. Indonesian Zainal Abidin is to be buried in Cilacap. The wishes of two other Nigerians — Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise and Okwudili Oyatanze — as well as those of Gularte, the Brazilian, have yet to be made public. Originally, 10 inmates were to be executed, but Frenchman Serge Atlaoui was excluded because he still had an outstanding court appeal against Jokowi's rejection of his clemency application. The government says Atlaoui will face a firing squad alone if his appeal is rejected by the Administrative Court. 

In reaction to the killings, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced that Australia will withdraw its ambassador from Jakarta in response to the executions of two Australians, Myuran Sukumaran, 33, and Andrew Chan, 31.

Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff said in a statement the execution of a second Brazilian citizen in Indonesia this year "marks a serious event in the relations between the two countries."

Brazil had asked for a stay of execution for Rodrigo Gularte, 42, on humanitarian grounds because he was schizophrenic.

Two Children Found Dead Inside Deeper Freezer In Delta State... You wont believe the person behind it

Confusion and sadness reigned in Owa Alero, Ika North-east local government area of Delta State, last Thursday, when the family of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Oseni discovered the corpses of two of their children, David Oseni, 6, and Shedrack, 4, inside their parents’ deep-freezer, purportedly used for their ‘iced block’ business.

According to reports, the children were found frozen, definitely had been there for some time. All efforts to revive them proved abortive, as they were confirmed dead from hypothermia, Leadership reports. The Osenis, natives of Etsako, Edo State, have been living in Owa Alero, the ancestral home of the
mother. Neighbours revealed that the parents had locked the children indoors and went to conduct their daily businesses after they returned from their holiday classes, only to discover the tragedy upon their return.

The father, Oseni, said he had taken the generator for repairs and, upon returning, powered it on to confirm its state, before loading it for the next day’s business.
“After 25 minutes, I lifted the top to check if the freezer was working optimally, only to behold the lifeless bodies of David and Shedrack in the freezer. I raised the alarm, calling the public to the scene. The children were immediately rushed to a private hospital where they were both confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. The police at the Divisional Office, Owa Oyibu, were contacted and investigations are on to unravel the mystery behind the tragedy,” Oseni said.

The two boxes of pastries and croissants were wrapped in pink ribbon, leading those desperately awaiting the royal baby’s birth to speculate it could be a girl.

A Kensington Palace spokesman confirmed that the breakfast surprise had indeed come from the couple themselves.
‘The Duke and Duchess have seen the news reports about these people camping out and they just wanted to let them know they were thinking of them,’ they said.

After Strange Disease Outbreak, Ondo Bans Production and Sale Of Ogogoro

The Ondo state Government, west of Nigeria has banned the production and consumption of locally-made gin, commonly called `ogogoro` in the state.

The ban was reminiscent of the colonial and post colonial time when the gin was declared illegal. Dr. Tai Solarin, the educationist and founder of Mayflower School in IKenne in Ogun state, led a campaign for the lifting of the ban in the 70s.

This time around, the Ondo state government is slamming a ban as a result of the recent health hazards associated with its consumption.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, announced the ban at a news conference in Akure on Saturday.




The commissioner attributed the ban to the outbreak of an unknown disease two weeks ago in Irele Local Government Area of the state.

“Our clinical analysis reveals the fact that there were no known viruses, while toxicology reports have confirmed our prime suspicion of methanol poisoning.

“We have reviewed our strategies and embarked on sensitisation to let people know that locally-made gin is prohibited.

“We will also embark on searches because this batch of methanol-containing gin must have gone round because 4 cases: 2 alive and 2 dead have been found in Odigbo Local Government Area,“ he said.

Adeyanju said that stakeholders such as religious leaders, transporters, youths, market women, and the relevant association would be informed of the development.

He said, “We will start with the entire South Senatorial District, then move to the Central Senatorial District.

According to the commissioner, the unknown disease has so far claimed 23 lives with ten other people receiving treatment.

“Two of them have regained their sights and are back home.

“We appeal to the general public to desist from drinking the gin until we are able to identify the source of contamination or find out how the methanol got into the drinks,“ he said.

The commissioner said that the state government was working closely with the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control and the National Orientation Agency to sensitise members of the public to the dangers of consuming such drinks.

One of the popular Sweeten twins, child stars of hit US show Everybody Loves Raymond has killed himself. Sawyer Sweeten (left & centre) shot himself on the front porch of the family home in Texas yesterday morning April 23rd. He was 19 years old.

"This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred," the family said in a statement. "We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday. At this sensitive time, our family requests privacy and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love."

Sawyer played Geoffrey Barone in the hit show, which also featured his twin brother Sullivan as Michael Barone and older sister Madylin as Ally Barone. Everybody Loves Raymond ran from 1996 - when the Sweeten twins were just 16 months old - to 2005 when they were 10.
