EFCC arraigns UNIBEN undergraduate over $12,000 internet scam

EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, October 30, 2014 arraigned an undergraduate of the University of Benin, Kenneth Rukewe Ebule before Justice E. F Ikponmwen of an Edo State High Court, sitting in Benin- City on a 6- count charge bordering on forgery, obtaining money by false pretence and possession of fraudulent documents. The accused person allegedly duped Sabine Albert, a German, of the sum of $12, 088, 75 through fraudulent claims.
Rukewe, 30, a final year student of Computer and Statistics at the University of Benin, was arrested by officials of a new generation bank on May 28, 2014 in Benin City and handed over to the EFCC for further investigation.
Troubles started for him when Albert alleged that within two months after he had internet contact with him, Rukewe fraudulently obtained the sum of $12,088,75 (Twelve Thousand Eighty Eight Dollars and Seventy Five Cents) from him.
Rukewe allegedly posed to Albert as an English businessman on transit in Nigeria. He gave his name as Bob Albert and told his victim that he had a contract with a Nigerian company worth €1.200, 000.00 and that he needed a loan to facilitate a transaction with the company. He promised to pay back the loan and even doubled it because he was sure of pulling through the transactions. He also told Albert that he had complications and suffered a robbery attack.
Rukewe also falsely told Albert that, a levy of of N1,975,861 (One Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty One Naira only) was imposed on him by the Federal Inland Revenue Service for the release of his International Passport, and a cheque worth 1, 200,000 Euros. He also pleaded for a flight ticket to London.
Based on all these, Albert offered to loan him the money by sending it through Western Union, only to discover that he had been scammed.
Investigation also revealed that the suspect had defrauded other German nationals to the tune of $110,975.00USD (One Hundred and Ten thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy Five United States Dollars) between May 2013 and January 2014.
When the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.
One of the charges read in part:
“Ebule Kenneth Rukewe (a.k.a. Bob Albert), on or about the 17th day of July, 2013 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with Intent to defraud, obtained the sum of $12,088,75 (Twelve Thousand Eighty Eight Dollars and Seventy Five Cents) from Sabine Albert (a German National), under the false pretence that the money represented part payment of N1,975,861 (One Million Nine Hundred and Seventy Kobo) levy imposed one Bobby Albert (a British citizen) by Federal Inland Revenue Service for the release of the International Passport, Cheque worth 1,200,000 Euros and flight ticket to London of the said Bobby Albert, which representation you knew to be false”.
In view of the plea of the defendant, prosecution counsel, Kayode Oni asked for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody. The defence counsel, Maureen Morka informed the court of her application for bail dated September 9, 2014 and prayed the court to grant the defendant bail.
Justice Ikponmwen granted the defendant bail in the sum of One Million Naira and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be resident in Benin City and must be gainfully employed in Edo State. The defendant must also produce his student identity card.
Justice Ikponmwen subsequently adjourned the case to November 21, 2014 for hearing and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail.

Aishwarya Rai's comeback: 'Jazbaa' plot revealed?

A fan-created poster for 'Jazbaa' published by Sanjay Gupta on Twitter
The announcement that veteran actress Shabana Azmi has been added to the cast of 'Jazbaa' has helped clarify the plot of Aishwarya Rai's comeback film. It is generally accepted that the film, directed by Sanjay Gupta, is a remake of the 2007 South Korean film "Seven Days" but new plot details revealed in an Oct. 29 article make it all but certain that this is the case.
According to a variety of sources Azmi will be playing a mother who will be working against Aishwarya and Irrfan Khan's characters. Aishwarya plays a lawyer who is unbeaten in the courtroom and Irrfan is a suspended cop. Gupta has recently revealed that there is no romantic equation between Aishwarya and Irrfan in the film.
Aishwarya is reportedly furious at Gupta over the number of plot points he's been releasing to the press, and is also upset that the director plans to include an item number in what is supposed to be a dramatic and intense film. There are reports that she has demanded changes to the script as well.
If Gupta stays true to the original film, here's what happens (possible spoilers follow): Aishwarya portrays a lawyer with an incredible winning streak, but as a result has little time for her daughter. Her daughter is kidnapped and in order to save her Aishwarya must secure a not-guilty verdict for a convicted rapist and murderer. The kidnapper gives her seven days to accomplish this task.
Aishwarya enlists the help of a suspended cop (played by Irrfan) to help her track down her daughter's kidnapper, while at the same time working frantically to win her case and free a guilty man from prison. Over the course of her work she meets the mother (Shabana Azmi) of the girl who was raped and killed by her client, and senses that the woman is particularly moved by love for her child.
Aishwarya succeeds in winning her case and the rapist and murderer walks free. She is lead to the location of her daughter, who is found in a bag and thought to be dead. In the original film this scene played out almost exactly as did the climax of the Brad Pitt film "7," but the daughter is found alive. The murderer, however, is attacked and brought to a house where he is set on fire by the mother of the woman he murdered, who also, it turns out, is the one who kidnapped Aishwarya's daughter. She did all of this to ensure that it was her, and not the state, who got to execute the man who ruined her family.
Of course this is merely speculative, but given that "Jazbaa" is a remake of "Seven Days" and that characters with the same descriptions as those in the original film have been cast, it seems likely that the story will follow in a similar (if not exactly the same) manner. The gist being that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will work with Irrfan Khan to free a guilty man and that this scenario will have been set in motion by Shabana Azmi's character. The film is set to release in the spring of 2015, so we shall very soon see how true to the original Sanjay Gupta is being!

So Sad: Listen To What Jordana Brewster Said About Paul Walker’s Death

It’s been almost one year since Paul Walker was tragically killed in a car crash, and his fellow co-stars are still feeling the pain. Jordana Brewster, who portrayed his love interest in the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, is speaking out about how she still misses his presence on set.

Jordana Brewster, 34, is opening up on just how difficult it is to continue to work on the Fast & Furious franchise without Paul Walker there. The actor died in a car crash at just 40 years old in California last November. He sadly left behind his teen daughter, Meadow Walker.

The Furious 7 actress reprises her role as Mia in the latest Fast film. Since the very first installment of the hugely successful franchise, Jordana and Paul played opposite each other as love interests. As such, they developed a very strong bond over the years.
“It’s the most difficult, intense thing I’ve ever been through,” Jordana told Cosmopolitan in a recent interview. We can’t imagine how tough it was to continue to go on set without seeing Paul. So sad.
“Just yesterday, I had a moment where I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m never going to feel the way I felt when I hugged him.’ We shared so many years of friendship, and he embraced life so much,” Jordana went on to say. “The thing about Paul is he said hello to everybody. He didn’t see people as different.”
The latest film in the Fast franchise is set to open in theaters on April 3, 2015 and the cast couldn’t have done it without Paul’s presence.
Jordana told E! News this last film with Paul in it is “bittersweet.”
“I think the beautiful thing is that they get to see Paul again, and in a way celebrate him,” she revealed. “I’ve heard he’s really, really good in it, so I look forward to seeing him, too. Obviously it will be bittersweet, but I think it’s a way for fans to revisit him.”
Sadly, Paul died just weeks before shooting on the seventh film wrapped, which left producers in a difficult position. His brother, Cody Walker, was able to take on the remaining scenes for Paul’s character, Brian O’Conner.
Paul’s final film will be a great way for his family, friends and fans to remember him.

“Lagos Is The Worst Place To Visit On Earth” – Yahoo! Travel Writer

According to a writer at Yahoo Travel, Lagos is the worst place he has ever visited on planet earth.
Lee Abbamonte, a “travel expert” is the man with this opinion. He is described as “the youngest American to visit all 193 member nations of the United Nations.”
Here’s what he says about Lagos:
“As far as I am concerned, Lagos, Nigeria, is the worst place on planet Earth. I’ve never experienced so much corruption in my life. It was just a horrific experience getting into the country. Crossing in from Benin, we got shaken down by the border guards. In addition to the multiple police shakedowns, the multiple ATM issues were enough for me; three times in two days, the machines dispensed the wrong amount of money. It was oppressive and hot. I couldn’t tell you one good thing about that place.”
Here’s the picture he used to illustrate his point:

Check Out Why CAF 'Agrees In Principle' To Postpone 2015 AFCON

If latest reports are to be believed, then the Confederation of African Football, CAF, may have postponed the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations expected to hold in January in Morocco.
According to a report published moments ago by a Moroccan daily newspaper, As-Sabah, the African football governing body has agreed in principle to postpone the biennial championship till June next year or early 2016.
This detail is coming after a meeting  was held in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Wednesday between CAF President, Issa Hayatou and representatives of the Moroccan Ministry of Sports, the Moroccan football association (FRMF) and the country’s health authorities.

Confederation of African Football President, Issa Hayatou.
A source that attended the meeting had informed newsmen that the North African country had once again requested that the tournament be postponed from January to June 2015 or January 2016.
The report also stated that Hayatou would be willing to meet their request when CAF  takes a final decision on Sunday when the Executive Committee of the continental body meets in Algiers, Algeria.
However, CAF has refused to comment on the matter.
It would be recalled that Moroccan had cited concerns over the Ebola outbreak in West Africa for its call for the postponement of the tournament.
No fewer than 5000 people have been reported to have died from the deadly disease in West African nations this year.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are the current champions of AFCON after their triumph at the last edition held in South Africa.
The Eagles may not defend their trophy considering they are presently placed third in their qualifying group behind South Africa and Congo. Sudan is placed bottom of the group after four rounds of matches.

Check out why govt didnt approve Synagogue Collapsed building. You wont believe why

Click for Full Image Size
The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Develpoment, Oluwatoyin Ayinde, has said that the collapsed six-storey building of the Synagogue Church of All Nations has no government approval.
Ayinde stated this on Thursday while giving testimony before the coroner probing the cause of the building collapse.
No fewer than 116 persons died while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the September 12, 2014 tragedy.
Ayinde said investigations conducted by his ministry after the accident revealed that though the six-storey building had a record of survey, it however had no approval of the government.
He said the only thing found in the records was an approval for the church's main auditorium, adding that though that auditorium had now been raised to eight floors, the approval given was only for five floors.
The commissioner, who described all unapproved structures in the church's premises as illegal, stated that there was the need to investigate what he described as unusual practices going on within the church premises.
Ayinde wondered why, for instance, one of the columns supporting the additional three floors placed on the main auditorium had to take off from the top of a water tank.
He said, 'The approval that we saw was in the name of the Synagogue Church of All Nations dated January 26, 2004 but that approval was just for the main auditorium and one of the things we discovered was that it was an approval for a five-floor development. But on our visit to the site, we discovered that the building had been taken to eight floors; we do not have the records of the additional floors, making those floors illegal construction.
'Did we see anything on the collapsed building? No. In our records, the collapsed building has no approval.'
He added, 'I'd like to say that with the additional structure we saw on site, we are inclined to express some fears. We have seen, for example, that one of the columns is not taking off from the ground floor, but it is resting on an existing water tank and I don't know whether any engineer certified that construction. This needs to be investigated because it is an unusual practice to start a column middle way.'
While expressing doubts over the claim by the church that the collapse of the building was connected with some aircrafts that had hovered over it shortly before the accident, Ayinde stated that his investigations revealed that the distance between the said aircraft and the top of the building was one and a half the length of a football pitch.
He added that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority had written a letter to his ministry showing a request by the Nigeria Air Force that some of their aircrafts were going to be having rehearsals at that time around that place.
He said, 'What we wanted to know was which aircrafts were flying at that particular time? Two, at what altitude were they flying? And three, what was the coordinate of their flight path?
